This Inconvenient Truth

Posted on: March 10th, 2018

According to recent LIMRA data, Life Insurance sales continue to dominate the insurance market

suggesting that more than 87 million American households own some form of life insurance,

and that number is on the rise. So why have Disability Insurance sales experienced only nominal

growth in the past few years?

In my lifetime, many infectious diseases have been either eradicated or eliminated regionally.

Smallpox, polio, rabies, malaria, and rubella to name a few, now have vaccines that have

eradicated them completely or are in the process of doing so. These advancements in

vaccines are just the tip of the iceberg.

I lost my best friend to cancer when we were seniors in High School, and I have followed cancer

research closely over the years. From T-cell therapy to genetic research to immunotherapy to

protein blockers, there are several very promising therapies that would have possibly saved my

friend 25 years ago. These advancements in medicine will undoubtedly save millions of lives,

however the chances of becoming disabled for an extended amount of time will continue to rise.

It is our job to help clients recognize the risk and protect themselves and their families from this

inconvenient truth.
